On Forest Fires: Problems With Maui's Police Chief
He's a professional liar.
UPDATE (8/25): Eyewitnesses have confirmed that both the north and south side of Front Street were barricaded by Chief Pelletier’s officers as the town was burning up. Pelletier is also acting as the town coroner by his own admission, which just adds another red flag.
After accusations of abuse of power, the Maui Police Commission searched for a new MPD chief in the fall of 2021. Deciding between five finalists, the commission selected a non-Hawaii resident—a first ever for the position—to mend the broken relationship between the department and residents. The man to win the job that October would be John Pelletier from Las Vegas.
Pelletier spent 22 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department where he managed the strip and oversaw critical incidents as the SWAT commander during the infamous Vegas shooting in 2017. More on that later. He also received a (spooky) certificate from the FBI National Academy in 2019.
In November, Pelletier would recruit a Las Vegas buddy Charles Hank to be his second in command, making the department even less Hawaiian. People praised Pelletier for what seemed to be transparency and a willingness to take a pay cut to do the job. However, 50 days into his tenure, Pelletier would demand a 23% pay raise. Not only would the commission agree that he needed an increase, but they would suspiciously suggest an ever higher increase at 29%.
Wow! They must really want to retain this guy. He must be working really hard for the community, right?
Actually, the already-understaffed department would get numerous complaints about Pelletier in his first year. Many experienced officers would take early retirement, citing an abusive dictatorship.
No action would be taken against Pelletier.
Fast forward to last week and all hell breaks loose in Lahaina. Everyone seems to have a lot more questions than answers. During a press conference, a performative Pelletier addressed the crowd quite condescendingly.

There are a couple of things to note in this video. First, he is telling people who are trying to help those in need and salvaging what little they have left to essentially stop contaminating his crime scene. What he’s really doing is trying to control the forensic evidence. As we know from 9/11, that was a huge part of managing the narrative.
Secondly, he compares dealing with mass death in Maui to his work during the Vegas shooting. I’ll show you why this is a completely absurd statement, proving that this man was put in his current position to lie to the cameras.

It should be noted that Crowds on Demand—a Hollywood-based company known to hire fake protestors for events—was recruiting heavily for something in Vegas around this time. They used both Craigslist and Backstage.

I thought there was going to be an argument relating to the fires in Maui but no. So just bc the cop is the same that means,, what? It's not evidence of anything other than it being the same guy.
